Day 1: Moshi to Mandara Hut

On the first day, travelers begin their adventure with a drive from Moshi to the Marangu Gate. After completing registration, they start their trek through a lush rainforest, where they are likely to encounter monkeys and exotic birds. The day concludes at Mandara Hut, located at 2,700 meters above sea level. Trekkers can explore the nearby Maundi Crater, which offers panoramic views of the surrounding area.

Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

The second day involves a trek from Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut. As the trail ascends, the landscape transitions from rainforest to moorland. This area features giant lobelias and groundsels, providing a stark contrast to the previous day’s scenery. Trekkers enjoy views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks as they make their way to Horombo Hut at 3,720 meters.

Day 3: Acclimatization at Horombo Hut

The third day is dedicated to acclimatization at Horombo Hut. Trekkers take a short hike towards Mawenzi Hut, reaching an elevation of approximately 4,200 meters before returning to Horombo Hut. This hike helps the body adjust to the higher altitude, reducing the risk of altitude sickness. The rest of the day is spent relaxing and enjoying the unique alpine desert environment.

Day 4: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

On the fourth day, the journey continues from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut. The trail crosses the Saddle, a vast plateau between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. This arid and expansive area contrasts sharply with the lush rainforest encountered earlier. Trekkers arrive at Kibo Hut, situated at 4,700 meters, in the afternoon, preparing for the summit attempt the following night.

Day 5: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak then Horombo Hut

Day five begins with a midnight ascent to the summit of Kilimanjaro. Trekkers make their way to Gilman’s Point on the rim of the Kibo Crater, then continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895 meters. The early start ensures arrival at the summit for a breathtaking sunrise. After celebrating their achievement, trekkers descend back to Kibo Hut for a short rest and then continue down to Horombo Hut.

Day 6: Horombo Hut to the Marangu Gate then back to Moshi

The final day involves a descent from Horombo Hut to the Marangu Gate. Trekkers retrace their steps through the moorland and rainforest, enjoying the changing landscapes one last time. Upon reaching the gate, they receive certificates of achievement before driving back to Moshi, where the journey concludes.
