1 Day Mt. Kilimanjaro Hiking via Lemosho Route

The Shira Plateau area of Kilimanjaro offers a fantastic opportunity to get high on a big mountain and to hike around this impressive World Heritage Site as a day trip – it’s a fantastic area and there are some great day hikes – either a more strenuous day hiking up along the ancient rim of the plateau or something more relaxed sticking to the undulating floor – perhaps going as far as the photogenic ‘cone place’ or Shira Needles’ at the Southern end of the plateau.
To the west the Kibo Massif of Kilimanjaro sweeps up to the glaciers near the summit, the rise scarred by deep valleys and eroded lava flows that stand like twisted modern sculptures in the harsh mountain weather.
A number of streams tumble down this flank of the mountain, eventually joining together in a gulley that crosses the plateau before plunging down to the plains far below.
There is a fair amount of wildlife on the plateau however most of it is elusive and nocturnal but with care the events of the night can be reconstructed from the footprints around the watering points on the streams.
There are herds of buffalo but also smaller gazelles and bushbuck, there is the car case of eland and elephant higher on the mountain proving that these larger animals are occasional visitor.

As the longest route on Kilimanjaro, the Northern Circuit also has the most acclimatization time and the highest summit success rate. Thus, the Northern Circuit route is highly recommended.
The route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the west, beginning with a long drive from Moshi to Londorossi Gate. From there, the first two days are spent trekking through the rainforest to Shira Ridge, before crossing the Shira Plateau.
The route then heads north and circles clockwise from Moir Hut to Buffalo Camp to School Hut, before summiting from the east. Descend is made via the Mweka route.
We offer the Northern Circuit as a Ten-day group climb or private climb.

The 3 Day Mount Meru Climb & Hike is the best for acclimatization prior to Mount Kilimanjaro climbing; The Mountain is the third highest peak in Africa and is the second highest mountain in Tanzania at 4,568m.

About Prison Island in Zanzibar

Prison Island Zanzibar, also known as Changuu Island, is a small island spreading across 5.6 Km.
Overcoming its turbulent history, Changuu island has become a must-see jewel of Tanzania with the highlight attraction of being a large home for the tortoises.

A Glance of History
Changuu Island was purchased by the first British minister of Zanzibar with an initial intention of building a prison there.
The name Prison Island originated from the initial planning of establishing a prison. It was actually used for a brief time in the 1860s as a prison for rebellious slaves and a coral mine.
No prison institutions were actually built on the island but rather became a quarantine station for yellow fever cases. Recently, it is used as a popular holiday destination as a government owned tourist resort and home to a plethora of endangered Aldabra giant tortoises.
The origin of the overflowing tortoise population of the island dates back to 1919 when the British governor of Seychelles sent a gift of four Aldabra giant tortoises to Changuu from the island of Aldabra.
By 1955, the population of the tortoises on the island had grown rapidly being stolen for food or to be sold as pets. A further 80 hatchlings were sent to enhance the tortoise numbers once again on the island.

About Unguja Ukuu Boat Trip, Zanzibar

Unguja Ukuu is the name of the village, for now, a place where Zanzibar’s tourists rarely if ever set foot. Its inhabitants are generally friendly and open, but nonetheless it has an otherness about it.
As one of Zanzibar’s most fertile places, its profusion of forest makes it feel like a place where spirits and magic reside.
For now the village offers only one hotel.
This very special boat trip starts in Unguja Ukuu village, far off the tourists tracks; with a traditional motorized dhow boat we are heading to the small uninhabited islands, Miwi and Nianembe or Kwale in the protected Menai Bay, where you are shown the unique flora and fauna of Zanzibar’s tropical islands, the boat ride is 45 min from the beach.
You stand some chance of spotting dolphins here – but not guarantee as you can get in the other southern village of Kizimkazi, but if you see them here you will likely be the only people watching, and the dolphins you see will be wild and free of the stresses of being chased by tourist boats (but keep it this way, we urge you not to pursue the dolphins but to let them come close if they choose).

About Nungwi Cultural Tour, Zanzibar

Nungwi a village at the northern part of Zanzibar Island.
This trip focuses on a cultural village visit to Nungwi, including sightseeing and free time to relax on the white sand beaches of the north.
In Nungwi there are number of very interesting things to see and do, including a natural aquarium that is home to endangered sea turtles and a variety of fish.
The aquarium itself is a natural formation carved out from the coral bedrock by the erosion of millions of waves crashing against the shore. The depth of the water rises and falls with the tides providing a natural environment for its inhabitants.
The best time to visit Nungwi is in the early morning when the fish market is in full swing – depending on the catch the previous night you might see tuna, king fish, dorado and a variety of other large fish for sale.
In the morning, local fishermen (and women) wade out to the edge of the coral reef to catch a number of different small sea creatures including squid, octopus, puffer fish and the occasional ray – their catch will be sold at the fish market throughout the day.
The Nungwi Boat Yard is another riveting experience where you’ll meet the ship yard owner and learn how the dhows are built; from the sourcing of the wood to the joints used and how they are launched.
